Welcome to Pennsville

Pennsville Township covers a land area of 10.5 square miles, and is located on the eastern side of Salem County. The township borders Upper Pittsgrove Township to the north, Carneys Point Township to the east, Oldmans Township to the south, and Quinton Township in Gloucester County across Great Egg Harbor Bay.

Pennsville was settled by Swedish immigrants in 1690 who were escaping religious persecution from their home country. In 1778 during the Revolutionary War there were only about 14 families residing in Pennsville but by 1800 it had grown into a town with over 100 houses.
